Open Me A Corona Returns Saturday to Win Mr Jess Perry Stakes

BOOSIER CITY, LA—MARCH 1, 2014—Coming off the only loss in his career, Open A Corona broke on top and drew off to defeat a strong field by 1 ˝ lengths Saturday afternoon in the $35,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Louisiana Downs. Racing for Tommy Hays and Charles Forbes, Jr., Open Me A Corona completed the 350 yards in a brisk :17.452 seconds, a 102 speed index. The $21, 000 winner's purse boosted his career total to nearly $500,000.

Bobby Martinez conditions the lightly raced 4-year-old who has won five of six lifetime starts, including the $1 million LQHBA Futurity at Evangeline Downs in 2012. Ridden by David Alvarez the CORONAS LEAVING YOU colt suffered his only loss last summer when he finished a troubled sixth after getting bumped in the Delta Downs Derby(RG2). Natalie Montgomery, DVM bred Open Me A Corona from the Mr Eye Opener mare In The Open.

Dashin Gage finished second for owner Douglas Traylor and trainer Kenny Roberts, Sr. Jose Vega rode the 4-year-old. Margie Loup bred the restricted graded stakes winner who earned $7,000 to push his total to $213,522.

Post-time favorite Bipty Dash finished a head back in third, suffering her first loss in her last six starts. The multiple graded stakes winning mare races for owner Ivan Alford and Marty Long. Long also trains the 5-year-old with Alfonso Lujan riding. Israel Flores bred the $227,330 earner from the Kentucky Jazz (TB) mare Bipty Jazz.

Completing the field were Blue Louisiana Jolla, Perrys Runaway, McM Dashmaster, Swinging Panther, Martini Mountain, Turbo Toasted.
